Campervans are larger and heavier than standard passenger vehicles, which can make driving on snowy or icy roads much more difficult than expected.
In recent years, Hokkaido Nomad Rent-a-Car has seen an increasing number of skidding accidents involving overseas customers with little experience driving on snowy roads. Some of these incidents have resulted in vehicle rollovers, collisions, and injuries.
Therefore, in order to prioritize the safety of our customers, we will generally suspend campervan rentals during the following period for customers residing in regions where opportunities to drive on snowy roads are very limited.

Applicable Countries and Regions
Customers residing in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and other regions where there are very few opportunities to drive on snowy roads in daily life.
Customers Exempt from These Restrictions
- • Customers who have at least three years of experience driving on snowy roads due to relocation, study abroad, long-term residence, or similar circumstances.
- • Customers who have previously rented from Hokkaido Nomad Rent-a-Car during the winter season without any accidents or traffic violations.
Even if the customers fall under the above categories and come from regions where there is little or no snow, such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, or Malaysia, we may make an exception and accept their rental reservation.
However, they will not be eligible to enroll in our additional damage protection program. In the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle, the customer will be responsible for costs of up to JPY 400,000 in accordance with our company regulations.
